Trying to Remain Impartial
It’s been hard keeping the faith while 45305 was a pile of bits in the shed, so it’s great to have her back in one piece and out on the big railway doing what she does. I’m not supposed to have a favourite locomotive. I should maintain a professional balance of coverage between the five locomotives in our care. Not that I don’t love all of them, but ..... if you were to ask people on the street what a steam locomotive looks like the chances are that they’d describe something with a Belpaire firebox, tapered boiler and high tender, and it would probably be black (I think you know what I mean!) Besides, 5305 Locomotive Association is named after one of the locomotives in our care.
I wasn’t able to get over to Tyseley on Wednesday this week to go on the test run – the Economic Imperative meant that I had to be elsewhere. So I was very pleased when one of our readers (Rick Eborall) sent us this photo of 45305 at Stratford on her test run. There are lots more pictures of 45305 on Rick's site at: rickeborallphotography.fotopic.net/
Having completed the test run, her next outing is set for Tomorrow, when she’s due to go to Buxton from Tyseley for Vintage Trains www.vintagetrains.co.uk. Unfortunately, the economic wossname means that once again I shan’t be with her, but for all the lucky people who have fully booked the seats on the train, enjoy the experience of travelling behind the best steam locomotive. (ouch, gerroff! OK, since you insist “one of the three best steam locomotives” – happy now?)
